Entflammt (Inflamed)
2013
Sound-Installation, loop 60 min
Speaker: Klara Kußmann
Location: NGBK, Berlin
A monolog or soliloquy strengthed to seemingly endless length.
Hours, years, centuries? A monstrous weird imagination!
Exhibitionguide:
"Rhythm makes language: that’s one conclusion you could draw from this work by Michael
Fesca, which shows the signified in speech can be altered by changing speed. Slowed
down speech represents a special challenge for the human body and can cause unforeseen
difficulties to both speakers and listeners alike. In the process, a semantic internal structure
comes to the fore: some words cannot bear slowness. Michael Fesca had the script voiced
by the actress Klara Kußmann, who had to engage in a form of audible shadow-boxing in
order to achieve a virtuoso ease at slow speech. In the text she reads out, Michael Fesca
reflects on this play on speed and its social attribution."

Excerpt from the script of "Inflamed" (translation):
" (...) Sexy and cool is the increase that leads in a fast cutted sequence to the appearance of our everyday life. A compression and contraction, which is consistent with our picture of intensity, an ecstasy that can fade sustainability and rationality. Eagerly required secular elevation. Policy according to artistic principles of the cut, Arts ie, not as ornament and decoration. Which punchline wins our consent and of the many others?
Rhythm as a competition, as the casual and rhythmically sophisticated trademark of the rap battle, where the cooler spell prevailed?
What do you think in this context of virtuoso?
Nothing. It is abstruse and inflamed . Yes they set one’s heart, that is not really an adornment .
- Smooth it swings to the beat. Suddenly he jumps up: Ha, that was your cue - too late.
Slowly, as you are, you extort the listener to follow, to endure, get bored and stay polite, you loner! Gradually it becomes exceptionally stressful.
I dream of refilling the excised or probably never existing gaps in movies that would bring back the action on real-time. Thus, the rhythm produced by the telling of a story would be resolved. Inaugurating a new story of comleteness, that the delight of selection is lost.
Yes, there are unexplored areas, because the question of whether it’s usefull for us, is our survival instinct. What temptations irritate us enough that we allow ourselves to run a risk? New links yield unexpectedly unexploited terrain. I imagine the skills of a new discipline that have to be invented yet. (...) "
