Three Short Drawn Annotations Pigment ink on paper. each 21 x 29.7cm Zine Speak to me, 2022, Edition Error, Berlin. Collaboration with Anna Bromley. Published in her zine „Speak to me“ (views below), which is part of the work Transistorsargverstärker:in ist. |
In the spring of 1980, Radio Freies Wendland broadcast anti-nuclear protests until the police evacuated the site. Today, its amplification unit sits in a display case in the German Museum of Technology. The installation offers a commentary on the now-silenced radio device, which is shown within walking distance of the exhibition venue. The venue itself was originally a bear pit, a home to Berlin’s heraldic animals for over eighty years, and in 2017 it was turned into a space for site-specific interventions.
While the visual level quotes the museum’s “glass coffin,” the soundtrack conveys the object’s biography from the perspective of a museum curator. A zine expands the object with further conversations about the transmitter and its musealization. I follow Anna Bromley's research closely. I briefly glance at the relics that remain locked away in archive folders. The disappeared voices soberly mirrored in the protocols of the police authorities echo in my ears. In my drawings, I speculate on what remains invisible in the photos and can be deduced from the few clues given by the protagonists. |
